5.0 out of 5 stars RECESSION SPECIAL!, January 4, 2009
This review is from: Mr. Coffee ECM160 4-Cup Steam Espresso Machine (Kitchen)
I've had this machine for over a year. I have tried other machines, even a pump. It makes good cappuccinos/lattes when the milk is steamed properly at the right temperature. If your only into espresso shots, I would go with a pump.

PROS
-Inexpensive, Small
-Frother is strong, plastic tip is removable
-Quiet (then a pump machine)
-Latte art hearts (SEE picture)

CONS
-Supplied tamper is just a slightly flattened end of the coffee scooper.
-No frothing pitcher.
-Multiple shots requires de-pressuring the machine.

NOTES

-If your making a 4 cup, it has a hard time pushing thru a 4 cup filled basket. You have to compensate by tamping very lightly.

-Descale it if it becomes slow.

-Sometimes excess water builds the tank. I believe this causes the machine to become less efficient. Run an empty cycle to remove the water every once in a while.

EDIT

3.0 out of 5 stars Great Buy, October 12, 2008

This review is from: Mr. Coffee ECM160 4-Cup Steam Espresso Machine (Kitchen)
Love this product. I read all the other reviews before buying, so I knew it didn't come with a steaming pitcher and ordered one to go with it. However, I didn't realize that it didn't come with an espresso tamper either. I would have ordered one had I known, now I have to wait for the one I ordered to come in and hope it fits this machine. Would have given it 5 stars, but as a former barista, I know that to make a good latte I need a steaming pitcher and a tamper. So for an espresso machine not to come with these items is like getting a pair of sneakers with no laces. I have had no problem with leaking, and as long as the user READS THE INSTRUCTIONS, they shouldn't have any problems either. For $40, I've already gotten my money's worth in the last week. And anyone interested in buying, I would say "GO FOR IT!!!" but order a steaming pitcher and espresso tamper along with it.

Note: P.S. Get a 49mm espresso tamper to go with it. Doesn't fit "perfectly" but its as close as I... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars don't buy a $300 espresso machine, buy this one, February 27, 2008
This review is from: Mr. Coffee ECM160 4-Cup Steam Espresso Machine (Kitchen)
I bought this at Targét for $29, and it is freaking awesome. To the two reviewers above... if you actually read the manual you would know that the cord underneath the base can be unraveled to the desired length. This is to eliminate excess cord on your countertop.

Anyway, I discovered I was spending almost $200 at Starbucks... a near crack habit. My previous espresso machine broke over the summer--a $300 Gaggia. Prior to the gaggia I had a krups.

So I plunked down a few bucks for this one knowing I was taking a wee gamble. Usually you get what you pay for.

Let me tell ya, this little machine is great. First, it is super super quiet. My previous machines were deafening especially when frothing. Secondly, it takes up little space. Third, it's fairly nice looking and matches our coffee maker. And of course last, it makes great lattés.

So, don't waste your money on some huge hulking espresso machine that will only last a... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars All around excellence at bargain pricing., July 31, 2011

This review is from: Mr. Coffee CG13 12-Cup Switch Coffeemaker, Black (Kitchen)
I had a Krupps and broke the pot. It would have cost me $23.00 with shipping to replace the pot. So I decided on this model of Mr. Coffee. Frankly, I just wanted a basic coffeemaker, no whistles and bells. Nothing complicated that required studying the book.
Just a cheap replacement. This fit the bill.
After having this Mr. Coffee for several weeks I can tell you I absolutely love it. It is a very well designed machine and the coffee tastes great too. Highly recommended. A bargain.

1.0 out of 5 stars Worked for awhile, January 7, 2010
By
This coffeemaker has been in service for less than two months, and we are about to replace it...I am on Amazon looking for units with good reviews. This one is full of sound and fury, signifying nothing. It burbles loudly for hours (literally) by the time it finishes heating the reservoir of water, and wastes so much in steam that only about half of the water actually makes it through. Perhaps for this reason, the reservoir lid has warped. Also, the pause and serve feature dribbles on the warming plate...a safety issue? Certainly a mess. I have cleaned it twice, using white vinegar according to directions, but it actually seemed to get worse each time. We had bought it several months before putting it into service, so it's probably not returnable. At least it was cheap... I was surprised to see that a nearly identical unit, with a slightly different model number, received good reviews. One nice thing about it: the carafe doesn't spill coffee all over when you pour!

3.0 out of 5 stars It's Still Working, February 3, 2011
By
"adam Smith" (Wauwatosa, WI USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Mr. Coffee CG13 12-Cup Switch Coffeemaker, Black (Kitchen)
I've used mine for 2 1/2 years.
It's inexpensive.
And it still works. And I have to add I know of no really bad features (but I am not an expert in coffeemakers).

My only complaint (and it's pretty important) is the quality of the brewed coffee.
This model has a "filter basket". I believe the ones that have a "cone" shape result in a stronger brew.
Also, the resultant coffee does not taste hot enough.
I believe that models differ in this regard, and that a hotter brew tastes better.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good, but not without flaws., October 31, 2010
This review is from: Mr. Coffee Single Serve Powered by Keurig Brewing Technology (Kitchen)
Just picked this up last night. To keep it simple, here's a pros and cons list of the coffee maker (not the k cup system)

Pros
Small. Fits really nicely anywhere.
Fast. Brews a cup in about 1-2 minutes.
Quiet. Not whisper silent, but quiet enough to not be annoying.
Taste. This is probably more a testament to the k cup system, but the coffee brewed tastes great.
Cheap. One of the cheapest, if not the cheapest k cup machine.

Cons
Brews in small quantities. It brews in only one size, and using a standard mug, it leaves an inch of room from the top. Average i Guess, but can be quite annoying if you enjoy larger portions, ex. Travel mug size.
Too short. Even after removing the drip tray that adds another 3/4 inch or so in height, you cannot fit many normal sized travel mugs underneath. Although, this is a moot point considering you'd only be filling it up about halfway, if even.
Temperature. Even handling... Read more

Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program ( What's this?)
Back in June of 2009, Keurig announced a partnership with Mr. Coffee, as well as Cuisinart. The Cuisinart partnership created a premium line of Keurig brew machines. The Mr. Coffee BVMC-KG1 looks to catch the interest of the more cost-conscious consumer.

PROS:
- Quick
- Easy
- No mess
- Good value (for a Keurig)

CONS:
- Higher cost for coffee using K-Cups
- Higher up-front cost of coffee maker

I was a heavy coffee drinker in college and at my first office job but have otherwise been a casual java drinker since. I had owned coffee machines in the past but typically went the route of the Peet's, Starbucks, Caribou, etc. It was easier, more social, and usually tasted better. Going through the motions with a coffee maker at home was an arduous task, which often resulted in me having to throw away many bags of coffee due to expiration. Then came Mr. Coffee and Keurig technology.

Upon opening the... Read more

4.0 out of 5 stars Much better than Keurig Mini, November 19, 2010
This review is from: Mr. Coffee Single Serve Powered by Keurig Brewing Technology (Kitchen)
I previously had the Keurig Mini which quit working in less than 9 months. I purchased the Mr Coffee and like it much better. With the Keurig you had to follow an annoying sequence of when to load the K cup, water and mug, not so with this machine. I would prefer a 10 oz serving but I can live with the 8 oz.
